Inuit religion and mythology
The Inuit mythology was filled with daring walrus hunts and adventure, there were lots of winter months to make up and tell these stories. There were lots of crazy creatures and ghosts. Some of the Inuit believed that the Aurora Borealis (the northern lights) was their ancestors dancing in the afterlife. For others, they believed that if you whistled it would come down and cut off your head. Still others believed that it was a guide to hunting animals. The closest thing the Inuit people had to a central god was the Old Woman, who lived beneath the sea. This was probably because water was their only food source so they added it to their religion. The Inuit believed that everything had a soul and not doing the correct rituals would cause some sound reasons to harm you. The Inuit believed a form of shamanism that involved animals and that anything and everything had some sort of spirit, even humans. This probably because they relied on animals for their diet so they would put emphasis on its importance.
