Topography
The inuit people lived in the Canadian arctic in the north. It is one of the coldest places on the planet. This area is covered by snow and ice year round. The ground beneath their feet is frozen year round, including the dirt underneath the ice, due to permafrost.
This area is considered to be a cold desert, due to the harsh conditions that people living there have to adapt to. Due to these issues the inuit who live there devised ways to survive, including wearing many layers of clothing.
These people used the environment to their advantage aswell though, as they used the ice from the ground to make their own houses, and other things.
